Trappist beers
The Trappists adapted religious beer to the modern world.
Trappist beers deserve special attention in that they enjoy a deserved worldwide reputation. They are the fruit of a centuries-old tradition.
Although the Trappist monks have taken a vow of conversion of morals (which includes the vow of chastity), they "reproduce" ... by swarming! These spin-offs were of particular importance in the development of many Trappist breweries.
The Trappist abbeys indeed establish between them links from Mothers to Daughters. Indeed, very often, when the "mother" brews, her "daughter" then brews.
Coveted appellation
Trappist beers have long attracted the envy of secular brewers, inspired by their reputation for strength and quality.
During the first half of the 20th century, so-called "Trappist" beers flourished, even though they had no connection with the Cistercian monks. The Trappist monks took several measures to protect the appellation of their products. (find out more ...)
Authentic Trappist Product
The Trappist monks, anxious to protect their products and prevent any counterfeiting, have designed a collective figurative mark: "Authentic Trappist Product" (ATP label), granted by the International Trappist Association.
